We’ve been wondering who would be pulling out the feather boas and rose colored glasses to take on the role of Elton John in the Rocketman biopic for a while now, and now we know. According to EW.com, Tom Hardy, best known as Batman’s grunting enemy Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, has signed on to play Sir Elton.
To paraphrase the Ringo Starr classic, it don’t always come easy, and that was the case with Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” Elton took his team — lyricist Bernie Taupin, guitarist Davey Johnstone, bassist Dee Murray, drummer Nigel Olsson and producer Gus Dudgeon — to Jamaica to record the follow-up to two consecutive #1 albums: 1972’s “Honky Chateau” and 1973’s “Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only The Piano Player.”
Elton John has been harshly critical of some of his more recent albums. Give the man some credit, though: unlike many of his peers, he’s put out at least one classic album since 2000 (“Songs From The West Coast”). In his spare time, he single-handedly resurrected the career of his idol (Leon Russell), and also contributed to four other Top 5 albums.
