Crowd Disses Hope

Our very own U.S. Olympian says she’s unfazed by being mocked over the Zika virus.

US Women’s National team soccer goalie Hope Solo was taunted each time she touched the ball during the team’s 2-0 tournament-opening victory on Wednesday by fans in Belo Horizonte.  The crowd loudly chanted “ZIKA” as the controversial soccer star cleared the ball.

Solo has been outspoken about her concerns over traveling to Brazil because of Zika.  Last week, she posted a photograph of herself wearing a beekeeper’s mask and holding a large bottle of insect repellent.

But as we all know, Hope Solo is one tough cookie and is familiar with this kind of razzing. She told NBC after the game that a loud stadium is better than a quiet one.
