Study: Washington State Has The Highest Number Of Soccer Fans
Does it feel like all you’ve been hearing about lately is the FIFA World Cup? New research shows that if you live in Seattle, you’re probably surrounded by soccer-crazy — sorry, we mean ‘futball’- crazy — folk.
Real estate blog Estately studied America’s Most Soccer-Enthused States, and it turns out Washington state comes in at number one.
The study examined attendance at Men’s and Women’s National Soccer League games, the number of soccer-friendly pubs, Facebook interest in soccer and global soccer clubs (based on region), the number of youth soccer clubs, online search interest in soccer, and the number of pro soccer teams. While Washington ranked highest overall, it was 1st or 2nd in a couple categories, including 1st in game attendance, 2nd in soccer-friendly pubs and 2nd in youth soccer clubs.
Maryland, Washington D.C., New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, California, Utah, Virginia and (this is a surprise) Texas rounded out the top 10 soccer-enthused states.
Alabama doesn’t seem to share the soccer love, ranking lowest overall.
Estately notes a couple interesting things about the list. Specifically, wealthy blue states and states with a higher population of foreign residents were more likely to have soccer fans.
