According to the makers of the Madden Football video games, voters on ESPN have chosen their final four NFL players in a contest to see who makes the cover of Madden 15.
Our own Richard Sherman, the best cornerback in the league, is among the finalists, along with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, Carolina QB Cam Newton, and and San Francisco QB Colin Kaepernick (WHY?) Sherman leads the voting so far today, with percentages in the 60’s compared to the 50’s for the rest of the field. The finals start May 30th.
Even for those of us who have never even seen a screenshot of a Madden game, we still know about the ‘Madden Curse.’ Here’s it’s evil history in brief: There have been 16 players on covers of the game, and 14 have suffered injuries, or their next football seasons have tanked, promptly after modeling for the cover. More on the history of the curse here at Digitaltrends.
It’s already happened to former Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander who was living large in the NFL (complete with an MVP award). In 2006, he was on the cover of Madden, and then, he was tormented by injuries. See? It’s a proven curse!
Now, if you believe, like I’m starting to, in the Madden Curse, then you’re going to want to reverse Richard’s voting stats on ESPN and vote for our common enemy, Mr. Colin Kaerpernick to make the cover. Why play with fate?
One question I have after not finding a thing on the web: Does Richard Sherman want the cover? My guess is yes, to hell with superstition. I really think he likes his mug out there, on anything.
