Kirt Debique is the founder and owner of Seattle’s newest Indie record label, Brick Lane Records— a label he decided to start after being with Microsoft for nearly 20 years. According to The Seattle Globalist, Debique wanted to build his own music community in the Seattle area.
While still small compared to even local labels like Sub Pop, Brick Lane Records boasts it’s fair share of talent. The label signed it’s first band in February of 2013, and since then has brought on acts like Iska Dhaaf, Benjamin Verdoes, You Are Plural! and Chimurenga Renaissance.
Frontlined by Nathan Quiroga and Benjamin Verdous, Seattle-based Iska Dhaaf‘s sound will be a familiar — if fresh– sound for indie-rock lovers. The duo’s USO-inspired music video “Everybody Knows” was featured on Spin and even includes a cameo by Macklemore, according to The Stranger. (For trivia buffs: the video was filmed in Stanwood, WA.)
Watch “Everybody Knows” for yourself below:
Good news if you’re a fan: Iska Dhaaf will be performing at the Capitol Hill Block party in July.
Debique himself is also a singer/songwriter for two of the bands connected to the label: Smile Machine and Mayors of Liberty. Take a listen to Mayors of Liberty’s “It’s Alright”:
