The Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi: All Is By My Side (starring OutKast‘s Andre Benjamin as Hendrix) will open the Seattle Film Festival, according to Variety.
The film made it’s American debut at SXSW in March of this year (it was previously showcased at the Toronto Film Festival in 2013). The film’s director, John Ridley, was also a screenwriter for the critically acclaimed 12 Years a Slave. Ridley is slated to attend the Seattle event.
Jimi: All Is By My Side explores Hendrix’s life pre-fame, from 1966-67. In the film, Hendrix is just another struggling artist until he meets a young woman named Linda Keith, then-girlfriend of Keith Richards.
The festival’s opening night is May 15th. Tickets start at $50.
