Kate Moss Wears David Bowie ‘Ziggy Stardust’ Costume, Accepts His Brit Award
When David Bowie won the Brit Award for Best Male Solo Artist yesterday (an award he last won 30 years ago), he was unable to attend. However, he still stole the show with his stand-in choice…supermodel Kate Moss.
Accepting the award from Noel Gallagher of Oasis, Moss took to the stage wearing the classic Ziggy Stardust “rabbit” jumpsuit that Bowie had last worn more than 40 years ago when he retired the Ziggy Stardust persona.
“In Japanese myth the rabbits from my old costume which Kate is wearing live on the moon. Kate comes from Venus and I from Mars,” Bowie’s statement read according to The Independent. “I’m completely delighted to have a Brit for being the Best Male but I am, aren’t I Kate? I think it’s a great way to end the day, thank you very, very much. And Scotland, stay with us.”
The final statement, a reference to Scotland’s desire to gain independence from the UK, garnered Bowie a significant amount of backlash via Twitter and Facebook.
dearest David Bowie this is who you are asking SCOTLAND to stay with…it’s OK for you…you live in New York. pic.twitter.com/3zMD3oAKBE

“I will be voting ‘no’ to independence for Scotland because David Bowie told me to do so” – said no intelligent Scot ever

Man who lives in New York (David Bowie) says “Scotland, stay with us”. I wasn’t aware being a U.S state was option… http://t.co/lxkRvCZQlf

In winning the award, the 67-year-old Bowie became the oldest winner of a Brit Award in the history of the honors. Previously, the oldest winner was Tom Jones who received an honorary award for his contribution to music when he was 62. Bowie beat out Jake Bugg, John Newman, Tom Odell and James Blake to collect the award.
