Marvel Comics has had many comic-book-to-blockbuster-movie successes. This time, they’ve set out to see if a little-known comic book series can garner the same kind of frenzied attention that Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, and the Hulk have.
As this first official trailer shows, they’re definitely not the beautiful people, like the glamorous Captain America, or Pretty Boy Thor. This posse is not comprised of A-list heroes. For Godsakes, Chris Pratt from Parks and Rec is in a lead role. He is a poor-man’s Robert Downey, Jr., and he gets no respect, despite his new and improved physique. There’s also someone made out of bark, another Guardian is a raccoon (none other than Bradley Cooper), and even Zoe Saldana is a hot mess. These Guardians are ragtag motley types, and they’re off somewhere in space. And, a ton of folks are already dying to see them.
The basic premise is as follows from IMDB: an American pilot named Peter Quill (Pratt) finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. In order to evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with this group of misfits including Gamora, Rocket, Drax the Destroyer and Groot. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. No pressure.
Now, how long do we have to wait for the whole film? August, baby. How do you say, ‘Crap,’ in Raccoon?
