Britney Spears Music Is Good For Chasing Away Pirates
It probably comes as no surprise, but has recently been confirmed that Somali pirates hate Britney Spears music. (And they’re not alone)
According to the New York Daily News, sea captains are blasting her music as they cruse through pirate-infested waters along the coast of Africa. Apparently, the security team, through a very scientific process, determined pirates would hate her songs the most and not hijack the ships that were playing them. And they were right. According to a merchant navy officer, “Oops! I Did It Again” and “Baby One More Time” were the “most effective” at keeping the gun-toting pirates away. Spears’ songs are so good at repelling pirates, the sailors rarely ever have to fire guns to defend the ships.
So either Britney Spears has really annoying music (likely)… or she’s a really (unintenionally) patriotic American doing her part to keep our sailors safe at sea. (less likely, but we’re trying to put a good spin on it)
A member of the Maritime security industry even went so far as to tell the Daily News, “I’d imagine using Justin Bieber would be against the Geneva Convention.” Touche.
