As has been reported, and is what is happening somewhat, Pearl Jam‘s new album, Lightning Bolt, is being featured in this year’s World Series TV coverage, which started last night with a tromping by Boston over St. Louis (8-1).
We’re sure the band is thrilled with the attention, but it’s not as sweet as Ed Vedder would like . Who out there did not know that Evanston, Illinois native Eddie Vedder is a die-hard Cubbies fan?
He still loves these fellas even though Chicago has not been to the biggest show since 1945, and they haven’t even been close since 2003, when they got as far as the National League Championship Series.
But Vedder is set on going to a Chicago -sided World Series, and actually stayed away from attending any other final because his team was not there. He may as well be a Mariners fan!
Eddie tells Billboard.com ,”I never went to a World Series, I was waiting for the Cubs to get in. Then a few years ago, when we played the [Philadelphia] Spectrum the last night, it was quite a confluence of events. It was the last night of anything in the Spectrum and they were going to blow it up after the show, and it was Halloween, and the World Series was going on across the street, Yankees and the Phillies. The next night I actually went to the Phillies/Yankees World Series. That was it. But I’m going to go to a Cubs World Series game — and I’m taking care of my health in order to do so.”
Keep on paddle-boarding, bro! You may make it around the world before your Cubs succeed.
