We’d love to post the video directly, but the man behind the camera drops too many S-bombs for our radio rules.

But here’s the lowdown from the eyewitness videographer, paraphrased:  A Tesla Model S Driver hits an object on the road while traveling in the HOV lane near Kent. The car smokes and catches on fire. The car’s alert system signaled a problem and instructed the driver to pull over safely, which he did.  See his video here.

Luckily, no one was injured and supposedly the fire did not enter into the car’s cabin.

Tesla now confirms that the fire began in the vehicle’s battery pack, caused by a large metallic object that directly hit one of the battery pack’s modules. This created big difficulties for the firemen who tried to put out the fire. Tesla Shares of Tesla Motors Inc. fell more than 6 percent today after the video was uploaded.  Ironically, Tesla has touted this model as the safest car in America.

Hopefully this problem will be eradicated, and the science behind electric cars will thrive.
