Breaking Bad: “Baby Blue” Gets Resurgence In Sales
You could not have picked a better song for the final moments of the hit series Breaking Bad than ‘Baby Blue’ by Badfinger.
This reporter’s interpretation: a love song from Walter White, as he lay dying, to his bitter lover – the blue meth that he perfected and that got him into so much trouble. Here’s the band playing their big hit on The Kenny Rogers Show, back in 1972.
Billboard Magazine has reported a huge number of downloads of the song that peaked at number 14 on the Hot 100’s April chart of 1972. Billboard’s website says the song sold just under 5,000 downloads on Sunday night right after the show’s finale, which is remarkable for such an old song. And even more unbelievable, this upshot in sales 40 years later, was the best digital sales week this old song ever saw. We’ll find out tomorrow if this revived interest in the song will be enough to put it back on the record charts, competing against Miley and Katy and company.
