Celebrate One-Hit Wonder Day [Official Playlist]

View Comments

If hump day isn’t reason enough for you to celebrate today, how about taking a trip down memory lane for National One-Hit Wonder Day?

It’s the one day every year (Sept. 25 to be exact) when we get to guilelessly crank up those songs which, on a normal day, we may never admit to even liking.

According to The Huffington Post, the ‘one-derful’ tradition started in 1990 thanks to music writer Steve Rosen.

For your listening please, or to annoy your coworkers, JACK has put together a list of our top one-hit wonders, in no particular order. They’re all the ones you listened to back in the day and really loved, but you hear them again now and wonder what the heck you were thinking. You decide which are your favorites. Did we miss any greats?

1. “Groove Is In The Heart” Deee-Lite (1990)

2. “Funkytown” – Lipps Inc. (1980)

3. “Come On Eileen” – Dexys Midnight Runners (1983)

4. “Disco Duck” – Rick Dees (1976)

5. “Mambo No.5″ – Lou Bega (1999)
