It’s been a time-honored tradition amongst the best of history’s football coaches: Be a Hard-Ass.
But does grueling, grinding, mentally exhausting, ridicule-filled practices featuring footballs chucked from coach to players’ heads make for a happy player? Not for Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll.
Seems he’s looking at the spiritual arts of meditation and yoga to inspire his players to greatness.
“I wanted to find out if we went to the NFL and really took care of guys, really cared about each and every individual, what would happen?”
Pete has been with the team for 3 and a half years, and with a 91-man roster that includes only four players who have been with the team longer than him. Is this kinder, gentler approach working? We did have a great season last year…
According to an article on ESPN.com, the entire roster participates in yoga class, which players enjoyed so much last year as an optional activity that the staff decided to make it a mandated part of player workouts this year.
