Chalk up another big win for local boys Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The rap duo, along with (the Mickey Mouse Club’s finest member) Justin Timberlake, picked up six VMA nominations each this year, according to the New York Post, making them the top nominees.

“Thrift Shop” which will face off against Timberlake’s “Mirrors” in the Video of the Year category along with Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines”, Taylor Swift‘s “I Knew You Were Trouble” and Bruno Mars, “Locked Out of Heaven.”

“Can’t Hold Us” was nominated for Best Editing, and is up against “Mirrors” again.

Ah, we know Macklemore is a classy guy and he would never speaking poorly of his contemporaries — at least publicly, but you can’t help but wonder what he thinks about going up against these fellow artists like Lil’ Timby and Billy Ray Cyrus’ nut-job daughter.

Timbercake and Cyranasaurus were both manufactured by Disney whereas Macklemore, or Ben Haggerty, had a humbling Seattle upbringing and spent his 20s battling drug problems.

Not to be a homer, but we think Macklemore deserves recognition just a little more than the others do.
