Amanda Knox Discusses Murder Case In TV Interview

Amanda Knox says she has nightmares regarding her murder case but has nothing but warm memories of the girl some claim she killed. In an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer that aired Tuesday night, Knox says she had wonderful times with her British roommate Meredith Kercher when they were exchange students in Italy, and says she has nothing but empathy for Kercher’s family.

Knox maintains she did not murder Kercher and hopes Kercher’s family will one day give her permission to visit Kercher’s grave. She says she understands the preconceived notions from some regarding any connection to Kercher’s death but tells Sawyer “I want the truth to come out. I would like to be re-considered as a person.”

The TV interview fell on the same day Knox’s book “Waiting to Be Heard” hit store shelves. In it, Knox says she regrets not reaching out to Kercher’s family after her death. The 25-year-old spent four years in prison for the murder of Kercher while the pair were exchange students in Italy. Knox was acquitted on appeal in 2011 and returned to the United States, but Italy’s high court last month ordered a retrial.
