“I Touch Myself” Singer Dies

The lead singer of Divinyls has died. Chrissy Amphlett was known for the band’s only hit, “I Touch Myself” that reached number four in 1991. In 2007, Amphlett announced that she had M-S. Three years after that, she got¬†breast¬†cancer. Her husband says she “vigorously fought with exceptional bravery and dignity.” She was 53. Amphlett told AP Radio in 1991 that she and her girlfriends used to call everything “divinyl” while they were shopping and that’s where the name came from. She also played Russell Crowe’s mother in the musical “Blood Brothers.” Crowe tweets that he’ll remember her “loving life and reciting verse.” He signed the tweet, “your boy, R.”
