In a new tongue-in-cheek promo for Vampire Weekend’s upcoming Steve Buscemi-directed concert webcast, filmmakers capture the apparent first meeting between the indie rockers and the “Boardwalk Empire” star. But it turns out the partnership didn’t start out all that smoothly, especially the family reunion between Buscemi and bassist Chris Baio.
After awkward hugs with drummer Chris Tomson and Baio, Steve goes on to ask awkward questions about whether the band intentionally writes songs that are hard to understand.
He also offers to help increase their profile using his AOL e-mail account and its “big e-mail mailing list.”
Buscemi will be at the helm for Vampire Weekend’s entry in the American Express Unstaged series, which will be live streamed from New York’s Roseland Ballroom on April 28th.
Meanwhile, the band is currently on the road supporting their upcoming album “Modern Vampires of the City,” which is due out May 14th. They have a handful of shows in California this week including a return trip to Indio for the second round of Coachella this weekend.
