Despite being busy with Black Sabbath’s new album 13 and going through daily treatment for lymphoma, Tony Iommi continues to add work on top of work. This time, he’s collaborating with another legendary guitarist – Brian May of Queen – and they are reportedly going to seek help from fans.
Though nothing official is in motion yet, Iommi told the Birmingham Mail that he and May want fans to create their own music on top of material Iommi and May create themselves. Fans would essentially be working with the Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers.
“One of the ideas we had is that we could make the riffs available, get fans to use them in songs of their own, and see what they come up with. That way they’d effectively be recording with Brian and myself,” he said.
May first came up with the idea with Iommi when he visited the Black Sabbath guitarist at his home and heard a bunch of riffs he either never expanded upon or decided not to use.
“The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar! How great is that!” he remarked.
No details regarding the publishing issues around ownership of the songs has been revealed as of yet.
In other news, Iommi and Black Sabbath will appear on the season finale of CBS drama CSI on May 15 to perform “End of the Beginning,” a track from 13, due out June 11.
