Conan Avoids Jay Leno Jabs As Late Night Wars Heat Up
The man who had the most to say about “The Tonight Show’s” last hosting change is keeping mum so far on the rumblings about another possible shakeup. Back from a weeklong hiatus during which reports of anticipated changes went into overdrive, Conan O’Brien kept silent on the subject on his TBS show Monday night.
Instead of taking jabs at Jay Leno who ousted Conan from his short-lived “Tonight Show” gig in 2010, Conan chose to joke about Passover and the Pope before welcoming guests Magic Johnson, Thandie Newton and Langhorne Slim.
Although NBC has yet to confirm them, reports have been rampant that the network is preparing to replace Leno with “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon who succeeded O’Brien when O’Brien took over as host of “Tonight.” Leno eventually came back to the show, displacing Conan as host after just seven months. Conan has since moved on to TBS.
