MADONNA: CALLS ON BOY SCOUTS TO LIFT BANS ON GAYS
NEW YORK (AP) — Madonna says she has what it takes to be a Boy Scout. During an appearance at the GLAAD Media Awards, she boasted that she “can build a fire,” ”pitch a tent” and “scout for boys.”
The singer went on to denounce the Boy Scouts for their policy preventing gays from being part of the organization. During her appearance at the New York City event over the weekend, Madonna wore a Scout troop leader hat, blue shirt and shorts that included replicas of merit badges. Besides calling out the Boy Scouts, Madonna called for what she calls a “revolution” to stop discrimination and abuse of the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community. She says when she hears some teens commit suicide because they feel out of place due to their sexual orientation, it makes her “want to sit down and cry a river of tears.”
