New Releases: Art Garfunkel, Aerosmith Single & More
Let’s take a look at this week’s albums, reissues and other musical goodies from classic artists making musical waves yet again.
Spotlight Release of the Week: It takes humor rather than hubris to call your new album The Singer when you’ve been unable to sing due to vocal paresis for a few years. That’s exactly what Art Garfunkel does this week, with the release of a two-disc collection that includes a pair of new songs, “Lena” and “Long Way Home.” As for the rest of the album, it highlights the best of Garfunkel’s career, both solo and with Simon. And as for his voice, Garfunkel recently told Billboard that he’s not only “grateful” because he “didn’t count on anything like the voice coming back,” but that he’s hoping Simon will want to bring their sweet, sweet tunes to the masses once more.
Though Aerosmith’s Music From Another Dimension isn’t out until November 6th, fans now have a few tracks to sink their teeth into. This past week, Aerosmith debuted the second single from the album, titled “Lover Alot.” And boy is it a doozy. More of a fast-paced, hard-hitting rocker than the album’s first single, “Legendary Child.” Listen below.
This week, Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi and Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan will put out a curious collection titled WhoCares. The double album traces the various intersections of Iommi and Gillan over the years – like their charity singles under the name WhoCares in 2011 – as well as their individual side projects. Between the two, there’s lots of history to dissect – which we did when the album was first announced.
A tidy collection of everything Roxy Music has ever done is out this week, via a 10-disc box set. It includes the band’s eight albums released from 1972-1982, as well as two new discs of B-sides, singles and the like.
And finally, the massive reissue effort of Frank Zappa’s many, many albums gets its second installment this week, as the following albums are reissued: Zoot Allures, Over-Nite Sensation, Sleep Dirt, Studio Tan, Sheik Yerbouti, Grand Wazoo, Roxy & Elsewhere, Bongo Fury, Waka/Jawaka, Apostrophe (‘), Zappa In New York, One Size Fits All.
