Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of the bombing and shooting spree in Norway. At a memorial concert honoring victims of the tragedy, Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt took the stage, surprising 60,000 attendees with a touching cover.
They got straight to the point with an appropriate cover of civil rights protest song “We Shall Overcome.”
Before he started the cover, Bruce addressed the crowd with a brief, heartfelt statement.
“Good evening, Steven and I are honored to be included here tonight,” he said. “For all of us who love democracy and tolerance, it was an international tragedy. I want to send this out as a prayer for a peaceful future for Norway and dedicate it to the families that lost their loved ones.”
Watch the surprise performance here.
