A copy of The Beatles‘ first album released in the United States, Introducing… The Beatles, has been sold for $15,000 in an eBay auction. But before you go dusting off your old record collection looking to make a quick buck, know that this version of this Beatles’ classic is a rare find.
Known as the “ad back” version, this first pressing of Introducing… The Beatles consisted of 6,000 copies that had front album covers printed but no back cover. As a result, the Fab Four’s early U.S. label, Vee-Jay Records, used a full page advertisement to show off 25 records from their label on the back side of the record.
Due to legal troubles at Vee-Jay Records, the album’s release was delayed until January 10, 1964, just ten days prior to Capitol Record’s release of Meet The Beatles!. Introducing… The Beatles featured classic tracks like “Love Me Do,” “PS, I Love You” and their cover of the Top Notes/The Isley Brothers hit “Twist and Shout.”
Details on the eBay auction can be found here.
