Today, Jackson family members and celebrities took to Twitter to honor Michael Jackson on the third anniversary of his death. Jackson died of cardiac arrest caused by an overdose of prescription drugs in his Los Angeles home on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50.
The initial news of Michael Jackson’s death caused the websites of, among others, the Los Angeles Times and TMZ to crash. Three years later, Twitter is seeing a resurgence of tweets for Jackson today, this time with #RIPMJ and #RIPMichaelJackson hashtags trending as users honor the late King of Pop.
Jackson’s daughter Paris, sister LaToya and brother Randy all honored him by tweeting their thoughts:

Justin Bieber, who regularly cites Jackson as his biggest influence, tweeted his remembrance this morning:

Fellow ’80s icon Paula Abdul posted a heartfelt quote with the hashtag #RIPMJ:

Conrad Murray, the doctor who administered Jackson’s fatal dose of hospital anesthetic propofol, is currently serving his four-year sentence in jail after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter last November.
