Mick Jagger will host and be the musical guest for the season finale of Saturday Night Live, airing May 19. This will be his first time hosting, although he has performed on the show in the past. In October of 1978, The Rolling Stones were the musical guest, and Jagger returned in December of that year, duetting with reggae legend Peter Tosh. In 1993 and 2001 he performed on the show as a solo artist.
No word as of yet who will be in Jagger’s backing band, or what he will perform on the show. This is Jagger’s first announced performance since he played at The White House in February. There haven’t been any reports of Jagger doing another solo project, although rumors that The Rolling Stones returning to concert stages to celebrate their 50th anniversary have circulated in recent weeks. Coincidentally (or not), Jagger’s appearance on SNL will come just days after former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor finishes a six-night stand at New York jazz club Iridium. (Charlie Watts has a three night stand at the same club in late June).
