The group that revived the jam band genre created by the Dead and the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Allman Brothers[/lastfm], the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dave Matthews Band[/lastfm] were million-sellers with their very first release.
Years of touring and grassroots marketing preceded the Dave Matthews Band’s inking of a deal with RCA Records. That produced a core group of fans who were already into Matthews’ style of music, ready and waiting for his major label debut.
“What Would You Say” was the standout song, the one that got considerable airplay on the radio and TV, while “Ants Marching” and “Satellites” have long been live favorites.
Released in September 1994, Under the Table and Dreaming was a million-seller in less than a year and has moved 6 million copies since its release.
