The unlikely pairing of glam metal rockers Ratt and former Nirvana member Dave Grohl have been in studio recording together. NoiseCreep reports, “the new tune isn’t for an upcoming album from the Round and Round rockers. Instead, Grohl is working on a new project that is currently being referred to nothing more as ‘TBA”.

Ratt singer Stephen Pearcy and guitarist Warren DeMartini are working with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. Pearcy recently explained to Ratt fans “We’ll let [Dave] tell you about when he’s ready, kidz… Not for a Ratt record.” Pearcy also Tweeted about the collaboration saying, “Thing is it’s a way cool thing of Dave. We’re just privileged to b a part of that. Next Ratt!” Ratt drummer Bobby Blotzer announced last year the band was writing and recording with plans to release a new album in the spring of 2012.

Meanwhile Foo Fighters confirmed they will be in studio to record a new album this year. The Foos latest album Wasting Light was put out last April but Grohl revealed on the band’s official blog that he has already started compiling ideas for new songs. Dave wrote, “We’re not finished yet. There are still more shows to play, more songs to write, more albums to record, for years to come. I mean if you would have told me 17 years ago that in 2012 I would be writing songs for our eighth studio album…well.”

Wasting Light is nominated for 6 Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year. The Grammys will be handed out February 12th in L.A. Until then enjoy some favorite Foo Fighters and Ratt clips:
