Piers Morgan is all atwitter, breaking the news via Twitter that he’s leaving America’s Got Talent. Piers then tweets to Ricky Gervais, “I’m 20-1 to host the Oscars, you’re 25-1.” He also joked about hosting the Oscars on his TV show saying, “In fact, my schedule just cleared up a bit.”
Morgan’s leaving has nothing to do with replacing Eddie Murphy, who stepped down this week as host. Instead Piers is leaving AGT, “to concentrate on his prime time CNN show Piers Morgan Tonight.” He tweeted “I’m leaving America’s Got Talent after 6 wonderful years. Turned out that juggling’s harder than it looks, so I’m going to focus on CNN.” Piers tweeted congratulations to his AGT costars Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Nick Cannon, saying “you don’t have to put up with me any more!”
Sharon posted “I woke up this morning, thought I had a dream that Piers resigned. Now I’m waking up to the reality. Dont go. Never thought I would say this.” Piers replied “I’m gone” and “I’ll always love you @MrsSOsbourne – don’t worry. x”. The online lovefest continued with Piers even sending a tweet admitting he’ll miss Howie Mandel. There’s no word yet on possible replacements for Piers as judge on the popular talent show.
