Our friends at MP3.com recently relaunched their site, and to celebrate we’re helping them give away some fantastic new songs for free! Today, we’re featuring a remixed version of “Pumped Up Kicks” from Foster The People.
2011 may have found its new MGMT. Or is it Peter, Bjorn and John? Or quite possibly Maroon 5. Sounds contradictory? Then you haven’t yet heard the sounds of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Foster The People[/lastfm].
The L.A.-based trio is fronted by Mark Foster, who sounds like a cross between Adam Levigne laced with the catchy hooks of Peter, Bjorn and John. Musicially they’re a pop chameleon, blending electronic-dance, psych-rock and the brassy soul sounds of Motown.
Before signing a major record label deal with Columbia Records, the band released the insanely catchy alternative-rock song “Pumped Up Kicks” from their self-titled EP (2010), which then peaked at #2 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart a year later.
When asked about the first time they heard the popular track on the radio back in May, Mark Foster tells LA radio station KROQ, “On the way to the rehearsal, we heard “Pumped Up Kicks.” It was cool because the DJ talked about it afterwards, saying “This is my favorite song on KROQ right now.” It was wild. (He grins wide.)”
Since then, the band has amassed a cult following with their hit single and we’re sure it will only increase once fans get their hands on the synth-dance goodness that surrounds “The Knocks Speeding Bullet Remix.”
The original recording of “Pumped Up Kicks” is from the band’s debut album Torches released in May of 2011.
