Californian alternative rockers CAKE  returned with their first studio album in seven years in January. To celebrate, the band will be performing Live On Letterman on June 28th from the Ed Sullivan Theater.

CAKE were founded in 1991 and have enjoyed various successes throughout their career. Trends look at their scrobbles ahead of their performance on Letterman.

Classic CAKE material is still seeing a lot of activity at the moment. “The Distance” was listened to by 3,299 listeners last week, taking its total scrobble count to 1,474,504. Released in 1996 on the band’s second album Fashion Nugget, the song nailed over 1,000 more listeners last week than the second most listened to track, “I Will Survive”.

Compared to that Showroom of Compassion, released January 11th, hasn’t made a huge impact on CAKE’s charts. Last week, “Long Time” was the highest placed CAKE track from the new album, coming in at #17 with 963 listeners. The lead single “Sick of You” nipped in at #25 with 797 listeners.

Of course, the band haven’t been totally absent since 2004’s Pressure Chief. 2007 saw the release B-Sides and Rarities which has been scrobbled 767,063 times, a fair way off CAKE’s most popular release Fashion Nugget, scrobbled 8,239,804 times.

Make sure you tune into Live on Letterman on Tuesday June 28th to catch the live CAKE performance. In the meantime, make sure to check back with Trends every weekday for all the latest scrobble news.
