A new studio album from KISS is in the works as the band has already laid down basic tracks for five new songs. According to Gene Simmons’ twitter updates, they started recording the new album this past week.
Simmons tweeted, “Went into the studio today [April 14th] for day 1 of the new studio album. We’ve got some rockin’ stuff.” He also wrote, “In studio. Lead guitars underway on new stuff. Killer.”
Simmons hinted in an interview last month that fans can expect the new album to be “straight rock songs, no ballads, no keyboards, no nothing, just rock…[pullquote quote="...straight rock songs, no ballads, no keyboards, no nothing just rock." credit="Gene Simmons of KISS"] A lot of the songs have been written by the whole band together, so no outside writers, just the band doing what it did on the first three records – writing the songs ourselves.” He added, “We have almost all the songs written. In fact, we have too many songs; we have about 20 to 25 things that look and sound good.”
Guitarist Tommy Thayer also commented about the album, “It truly sounds amazing and the new songs are kicking my ass.”
Paul Stanley is serving as the producer on the album. There’s no word on a specific release date – except that the band hope to have it out before the end of the year.
