The NFL Players Association has filed papers to decertify, effectively disbanding the union and giving it the chance to sue under antitrust laws if there is a lockout.
The League and the players have been battling back and forth over the release of financial information to the union. The players will attempt to battle it out in court with the league’s owners. A federal judge now will decide the fate of next season and the collective bargaining agreement. By disbanding the union the players will now be able to sue under antitrust laws immediately instead of waiting the 6 month grace period after the expiration of the CBA.
