Jan. 24, 1935: First Canned Beer Sold In U.S.
It is a very important day in the history of this fine nation. On this day in 1935, the Gottfried Krueger Brewery sold the first can of beer on U.S. soil.
The quest to can the social lubricant started in 1909, and after many exploded cans, the now standard keg lining was implemented to contain the frothy brew. The rest is history! The beer was first distributed in Richmond, VA, by the end of the year over 37 canned beers were available for sale. The beer hat was rumored to be created just days later.
