For the past 9 years, American Idol has been one of the most popular shows on television. It’s created superstars like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and Chris Daughtry. It’s also produced rather forgettable stars such as…ummm…the gray haired guy?
With fan favorites Simon Cowell, Ellen, and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Paula Abdul [/lastfm]out of the picture, it was time to revamp American Idol. The 10th season kicked off with the two-hour premiere featuring new judges [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Steven Tyler [/lastfm]of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Aerosmith[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm], and veteran judge Randy Jackson. It also had its lowest ratings…EVER. Dropping 13% overall, it was a huge fall from its usual record-breaking numbers. It’s not like anybody expected them to go up anyway, right?
The biggest test will come on Idol‘s new night, Thursday, when the reality series will face steeper competition and audiences should give the network a greater sense of whether they’re digging the new judges panel. Only time will tell. Jersey Shore? or American Idol?
