Lake Union Fireworks Back on?

4th of july 08 004 Lake Union Fireworks Back on?

Looks like we may have spoken to soon. After it was announced that One Reel was forced to cancel the Lake Union/Gas Works Park 4th of July celebration because of lack of funding, it looks like a few local companies are swooping in to save the day.

Starbucks and Microsoft announced today they would each be giving $125,000 in matching donations toward the needed $500,000 for the show. Their donations follow a group of other local businesses and Seattleites pledging money to save the huge Seattle Fireworks show. Chef Tom Douglas got the ball started with a donation of $5,000 along with radio host Dave Ross.

The catch, One Reel has until this Monday to come up with the $500,000 in order to meet  fixed deadlines with barge permits and event safety planning. Looks like we are half way there!
